Emmanuel Yimfor, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Michigan, visited the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise on Thursday, August 25th, as a Kenan Institute Distinguished Fellow. Dr. Yimfor provided a large-group presentation entitled “Race, Education and Funding Opportunities for High-Growth Startups” to Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise and Kenan-Flagler faculty, staff and students. Following that session, Dr. Yimfor sat down with current Kenan Scholars for a small-group discussion.
This conversation provided scholars the opportunity to explore business topics such as how to increase the diversity of venture capital supported founders. Scholars then discussed the parallels between their personal and career ambitions and Dr. Yimfor’s research. Dr. Kim Allen, Kenan Scholars Program Director, and Dr. Greg Brown, Executive Director of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, also spoke about the growing importance of promoting diversity in business, emphasizing the relevance of Dr. Yimfor’s research.
The fireside chat concluded with a small networking social for scholars to engage one-on-one with Dr. Yimfor. This session provided scholars exposure to practical applications of what they are studying in their business curriculum. Dr. Yimfor’s visit also further inspired Kenan Scholars to consider innovative solutions to the most important problems facing the business world today
