Hello, From the Kenan Scholars Director Kim Allen Ph.D.

Greetings!

Welcome to this month’s Kenan Scholars News in Review. Friends and supporters, we are super excited to be back and fully in-person! The first weeks of classes have been jam-packed and we are settling in to our new normal and getting used to living with COVID. Before we kicked off the new semester, staff spent the summer doing a deep dive into the findings and recommendations from our 5-year External Review. Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing more about the improvements and staffing changes we’re undertaking, including revamping our Board of Mentors and research competency and offering exciting new curated cross-sector summer internships.

We’re continuing to explore our annual theme of ESG Investing and Stakeholder Capitalism. Our annual theme mirrors the Kenan Institute’s, which refers to it as its ‘Grand Challenge’. This year-long exploration includes lectures, conferences, research, briefings and reports intended to deepen our understanding and spur us to impactful actions that change policy and improve lives. Learn more about how the institute is tackling the complex challenge of Stakeholder Capitalism.

We welcome your ongoing engagement with the program, and invite you to participate in any of the Kenan Institute’s events and activities that piqué your interest, check them out here. And in this newsletter, we’ve included an abbreviated schedule of our fall activities. Please reach out to me or Phil to let us know to expect you and we’ll be sure to arrange for your parking and attendance. Wishing you a great fall!

Kim Allen, Ph.D.
